The student will understand:
Traffic signal warrants are used to determine whether the installation of a traffic signal is justified
Traffic signal control types are compared to determine which type best fits the intersection application
Types of traffic signal heads are evaluated to determine whether movement specific (i.e., left turn arrow) heads are required
Traffic signal phasing is analyzed to provide the most efficient movement through the intersection
Signal operating plans are evaluated to determine which one best fits the intersection configuration
Types of detection are evaluated to determine which is best for the intersection (i.e., maintained by the local jurisdiction)
Traffic signal signing & pavement marking are applied to the intersection based upon the lane layout and traffic control pattern
Basic signal timing parameters are analyzed to provide the most efficient movement through the intersection
