Layered Control of Slab Moisture (2 credit hours/2 HSW Hours)
Effective moisture control in concrete is a critical factor in the success of commercial flooring installations. This course will explore moisture control systems designed to maintain the structural integrity and aesthetic quality of flooring, ensuring long-lasting results. Participants will learn how to address common moisture challenges in concrete and how to select the right systems that provide confidence through warranty-backed solutions. We'll explore industry standards for testing and evaluating moisture, offering insight into best practices that support safe, durable, and high-performing flooring installations. Through real-world examples, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how proper moisture management can contribute to a project's overall success, from design through completion. By the end of the course, attendees will have the knowledge to make strategic choices that enhance flooring resilience and project outcomes.

After completing the course successfully, participants will be able to:

Explain the importance of integrating concrete moisture control systems into project design to ensure long-term durability, prevent flooring failures, and maximize the performance of finishes and flooring.

Determine measures to take before a slab is poured to minimize moisture in the floor after installation.

Identify the best location for a vapor barrier used in conjunction with a concrete slab.

Demonstrate the value of waiting as long as possible for concrete to dry, before applying flooring on top.

Apply key ASTM standards and testing procedures for moisture in concrete to ensure proper evaluation and management, preventing moisture-related issues in the project.

Assess high-performance concrete moisture control systems, along with industry-leading features, materials, and best practices, to enhance warranties, improve flooring longevity, and ensure safety in commercial environments.

Examine relevant projects and applications to appreciate the transformative contributions of concrete moisture control systems to successful architectural projects.

Use information presented to decide at which layer(s) of slab construction to implement moisture control.
